An Appreciation of My Favorite Book Bloggers

Hello friends! I’m so unbelievably excited for today’s post, as its main goal is to celebrate all the work my favorite book bloggers have continuously put into their blogs. This year, the Book Blogger Awards are hosted by Marie at Drizzle & Hurricane Books and May @ Forever and Everly. You can find out more about the awards by clicking on their blogs’ name, and I do urge you to participate. Book bloggers are so under-appreciated, we really do need events like these to celebrate each other’s work. 💜

Without further ado, let’s jump into my nominations!

BEST OF THEIR AGE

Best Pre-Teen/Teen Blogger

Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea: Caitlin is easily one of my top favorite bloggers; she has wonderful, original ideas (more on that later 🤫) and such a great blogging voice. I love reading her posts and I most often end up leaving a looong comment on them (to which she always crafts a meaningful reply.) She’s just an all around great blogger.

May @ Forever and Everly: As the second time host of the Book Blogger Awards, May is a pretty, idk, accomplished blogger? 😅 Definitely a hard-working one, and one who writes really eloquent reviews that tend to convince me to read (or not read) the novels she’s reviewing. She also publishes recommendation posts, and any post she puts out is always a pleasure to read.

Ruby @ Ruby Rae Reads: I discovered Ruby’s blog relatively recently compared to many of the others in this posts, but I love her content, so she definitely deserves a nomination here. Her blogging voice is engaging and fun, and her posts are always well-crafted.

BEST GENRE BLOGGERS

Young Adult

Marie + Nyx @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books: I’ve mentioned this over and over again on here, but just one more time: for a while I haven’t been into Contemporary YA, however, I slowly fell more and more in love with the genre. Besides the incredible contemporaries I discovered, it was Marie and Nyx – who mostly blog about YA Contemporaries – that had a pretty big role in my change of heart. Their blog is a gorgeous and friendly space, full of informative reviews and recommendations, and visiting it always makes me happy.

Romance

Becky @ A Fool’s Ingenuity: Becky reads a good mixture of hyped and under-hyped novels, most of them romance, and her reviews are really well-written. This might sound strange, but the way she writes her reviews feels like she opens a window into her mind. (Check her blog out and tell me if that makes sense? 😅) This means that I tend to be convinced by her reviews easily.

Nick @ The Infinite Limits of Love: Similarly to Becky, Nick also posts a nice mixture of hyped/under-hyped novels, so I’ve discovered quite a few books and authors through her posts. I love her reviews – and her “kiss factor” rating is a fun addition to them – and I really appreciate her new release lists, as well. I tend to find quite a few titles to add to my already over-flowing to-read pile whenever I visit Nick’s blog.

Literary Fiction/Classics/Poetry

Olivia @ Olivia’s Catastrophe: Olivia doesn’t only review novels that belong in these categories, but she is one of the few bloggers I know who reads and reviews quite a lot from these categories. She reads lots of classics and writes thoughtful reviews for them, and I always finish reading her posts/reviews having decided if a book is or is not for me.

BEST OF BOOK BLOGGING

Best Book Reviews

Belle @ Belle Can Read: Belle is not only one the kindest bloggers, but she writes some of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. They’re detailed and well-written, with the important bits clearly highlighted or enlarged, and she frequently includes at least one quote from the book she’s reviewing.

Roberta @ Offbeat YA: I’ve been following Roberta for years at this point, and yet, I’m still in awe of her reviews. She has an eloquent writing style and she delves deep into each book she reviews by discussing the good, the bad, and everything in-between. The funny thing is that we read rather different novels, and yet, I’m always excited to read her posts. They’re that good.

Sam @ We Live And Breath Books reads and reviews more novels than I thought was humanly possible. She does a great job of presenting the books she reads in unique ways; she does pros and cons reviews, mini reviews, as well as reviews where she shares ‘one old, one new’ novel, for instance, by the same author.

Best Discussion Posts

Chana and Malka @ Paper Procrastinators: Chana and Malka are two of the kindest people in the blogging world, and I’m so happy I discovered their blog earlier this year. 🥰 They post quite a lot of discussions, all of them interesting and presented well, which means that they always make me eager to interact with them.

Emily @ Paperback Princess is great at presenting topics I haven’t really seen around the blogosphere before, e.g. she analysed the Twilight novels after studying them at university. I love reading her thoughts on different topics, be these book-related or more personal ones.

Rukky @ Eternity Books: I genuinely love everyone I’m nominating for this category, but Rukky was the first person that came to mind when I started to think about this category. She’s the co-host of a weekly meme called Let’s Talk Bookish on her site, and always presents the topics in an interesting, well-written way. I love reading her and the other participants’ thoughts, and I appreciate that she takes the time to leave a meaningful reply to the comments she receives.

Best Blog Aesthetic

Bec @ Bec and Books is a blogger I’ve discovered pretty recently, but I already love her content and her blog aesthetic. I feel like her aesthetic is more on the simplistic side, which is exactly what makes it elegant and welcoming.

CW @ The Quiet Pond: Like last year, it was no question that The Quiet Pond, aka one of the prettiest blogs I’ve ever seen, deserves to be nominated for this category. CW has created on of the most creative, gorgeous blogs ever, and she continues to put so much effort into following her aesthetic; recently, we she created an animal for each participant in her Pride “Our Friend Is Here!” feature.

MISCELLANEOUS

Most Helpful

Kal @ Reader Voracious is one of the first people that comes to mind when I try to think of “helpful bloggers”. She shares lots of guides and tips, and she also creates a book blogger/reader spreadsheet every year. I have never used a spreadsheet like this – I thought Goodreads was enough for me to record my reading – but I decided to try Kal’s this year and it’s been so great to see all the pie charts and everything else Kal built into her spreadsheet.

Kat @ Novels & Waffles is another blogger who’s shared tons of helpful ideas and guides before. She has one of the coolest, most unique blog designs I’ve ever seen – and she’s done such a fantastic job of incorporating her design into unique ideas, e.g. the way the shares the blurb of books as “recipes”? Genius. I highly appreciate that she shares some of her design tips and tricks with us.

Most Supportive

Caro @ Bookchesire Cat: Caro’s monthly wrap ups are so detailed and interesting to read – that’s the kind of wrap up we should all aim for. She saves a place to highlight her favorite blog posts each month and she’s so generous with her shout outs. I love her blog tons, so it always makes me beam whenever she finds one or even multiple of our posts highlight worthy. 🥺

Roberta @ Offbeat YA is not only one of my favorite bloggers, but also one of the most supportive people in the blogosphere. She’s usually one of the first people to like/retweet us when we tweet about our posts, and she’s created a feature – Tooting Your Trumpet – wholly dedicated to sharing posts she’s enjoyed.

Most Engaged in the Community

Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books: Like I said, I bloody adore Drizzle and Hurricane Books, and one of the key reasons behind that is that Marie is one of the kindest bloggers ever. She always replies to the comments on her blog, she highlights her favorite posts in her monthly wrap ups, and she’s wonderful to “chat with” in comments. Oh, and her comments on our blog are such a joy to read! This all added together with her co-hosting the Book Blogging Awards really shows how engaged she is in this community.

Most Creative

Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea: I told you we’re going to talk a bit more about Caitlin’s original ideas, didn’t I? Like I said, I love her blog and her blogging voice, and I love how she always seems to come up with creative ideas I haven’t really seen done before. Her original feature, Caitlin Reads, is always fun to read. It’s a bit like a vlog in blog format with check ins at multiple points of a book and with a mini review at the end.

Best Social Media Influencer

Olivia @ Olivia’s Catastrophe: I’m not the best at using social media, but even so, I do know that Olivia is a freaking master of social media. She blogs, makes booktube videos, tweets quite a bit, and posts super-cool, unique pictures on bookstagram. She’s a super human, I swear.

Friendliest Member of the Community

Abi @ Scribbles & Stories: I “met” (i.e. started talking to) Abi earlier this year, and she’s genuinely one of the friendliest, kindest members of the community. (Also! Her blog is really-really great.) I love buddy reading novels with her, even though we were starting to think our buddy reads were cursed, because for a while there, they all ended up terribly disappointing. 😅

Chana and Malka @ Paper Procrastinators: These girls are so kind and they leave the most thoughtful comments and replies. 🥺 I’ve found myself having a mini convo with them in the comments before, and I’m always looking forward to reading their comments and replies.

Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads: I love commenting on Meeghan’s blog, because she’s great to chat with in the comments section. She wasn’t around for a while this year, after which she spent weeks and weeks catching up on everyone’s old posts, which is so kind and admirable?? I doubt I’d have the strength to do that. 😅

Best at Promoting Diverse Books

CW, Joce, Skye @ The Quiet Pond: The bloggers of The Quiet Pond deserve to be nominated for this category, for sure. They focus on reviewing and recommending diverse novels and have featured many diverse creators on their blog. On top of this, The Pond News, Skye’s weekly feature, aims to share all the diverse bookish news imaginable, including announcements and new releases.

MOST IMPORTANTLY

Best Overall Book Blogger

Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books: This was the hardest question to answer, because all bloggers mentioned are such massive favorites of mine. 🥺 Even so, I had to make a decision, and I ended up picking Marie for this category. She has a beautiful blog, filled with incredible content. She’s supportive and kind, and she is also super engaged in the community. Overall, I could not have picked anyone else for this category, so she remains my only nomination here.

  1. Ahh, Vera!!! Thank you for nominating for not one, but two awards 😭😭💗 I’m so honored!! & lmao I’m actually glad that you said I leave meaningful replies—it’s something I always try to do! I hate it when I spend like five minutes of my life crafting a meaningful comment & all i get in reply is thank you or something 😅 anyways that was a little off-tangent. thank you so much for mentioning me again 🥺🥺 i’m so excited to write my own nominations post (though I know sorting everyone into different categories will be hard), and to see how everything pans out this year!!

    1. You (& your blog) definitely deserve those nominations! 🥺💜 Haha, yes, I agree with that – it makes me feel awkward about writing a long comment, because it obviously wasn’t “appreciated” (which, in my mind, means that the blogger hated it) 😅. Ah, I can’t wait to read that – I’ve been discovering so many new blogs through nomination posts.

  2. 😭 🥰
It means a lot to me that you love my reviews even if you don’t necessarily read the same books I do. Technically, reviews are meant to push books into other readers’ lap, so I should deem it a failure if I don’t convince you to read them 😂 – but I feel so complimented! Also, the other nomination…*goes back to happy crying*

I’m going to visit all the blogs you recommended now (though some I already knew about) and possibly follow them!

  3. Aw Vera!! Thank you so much for thinking of me! I’m glad you enjoy my discussion posts. They are often my favourite posts to write so it means a lot that you appreciate them ❤

I will also have to echo your words that Olivia @ Olivia’s Catastrophe is a super human. I watch her booktube a lot and I cannot imagine how busy she must be, and she has time to read on top of it! She seems like such a nice person.

I also totally agree that Roberta is super supportive. I’m having a bit of trouble with my Bloglovin’ right now and she has been helping tremendously.

    1. Your discussions are incredible, no question about that. 🥺

Olivia does like, twice as many things as I do every month (her wrap ups are excellent reads) and reads tons and does all the social media, blog, booktube thing on top of this!? HOW.

Don’t even mention bloglovin, I’ve come to hate it, though we do have readers on there, so we can’t just delete it (yet) sadly…

  6. Oh my goodness!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for nominating me for Most Helpful! It means a lot to me…gosh, I’m just one big puddle of emotions right now. This literally made my week so much brighter. I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired with my blog lately, so seeing this is a great reminder that that I truly do love book blogging. And it’s great to know that my rambling tutorials are actually helpful to some people out there. So thank you, once again. You are amazing!

Honestly I have so many new blogs to check out now thanks to this post, if you need me I’ll probably still be trying to come up with thoughtful comments a week from now 😂

I haven’t participated in the awards before (I was still an anxious baby blogger when they happened last year) but I’m going to see if I can put together a nomination post this time around. This is also my first time ever being nominated, so thank you so much! By the way, you’re one of the friendliest bloggers I know too 😋

  13. Hallo, Hallo Veronika,

I’ve added your lovely post to a blogroll underneath my own nominations as I wanted to help everyone whose seeking these lovely posts have a way of finding them! The search continues today – however, I was so knackered last night I wasn’t able to write comments on everyone’s posts until now. What I am loving is how the book blogosphere is being lovingly celebrated on every blog I am reading – from how the nominees are being presented to how there is this beautiful sense of community being celebrated as well. I am so thankful this is my first year experience – both as a double-nominee and as a nominator. Quite serendipitously lovely!

Loved how you made this feel interactive – you have a beautiful blog.

I believe I only spied one blogger I’ve crossed paths with previously? I am going to enjoy moving down your list and visiting the bloggers you love visiting yourself! Here’s to all the nominees!

You can read my list of noms and see if we share any mutuals?

  14. AHH 🥺🥺😭 thank you so, so, so much for thinking of me for the awards and for your sweet words, I don’t deserve this ahh 🥺🥺😭 thank you, this really means the world to me that you enjoy my work, thank you SO much. 🥺

  15. I read this post when you published and was like ‘I’ll comment later’… and here I am like 3 weeks later. First off that is the nicest comment someone has made about my blog in a really long time. I mean, you’ve seen how I work it’s all about word vomiting on the screen and hoping for the best. My worst posts are those I overthink so good to see my methods are working to convince you to read new books (or they will when I start reviewing books again). Now I need to go read all of the blogs here I don’t already read and there are a few. I thought I was a well-rounded blogger with a good reading list turns out I need to add another hour to my blog reading time and check these out.
