20 of the Most Beautiful Book Covers of 2021

Hello friends and welcome to the first installment of our end of year post series! 😊

I’m excited to announce that throughout December, we’ll be sharing multiple posts where we’ll highlight the highs (and lows) of our 2021. Today, we are here with a really fun topic as well as one that is bound to be pleasing for the eyes: we’re sharing our favorite book covers of the year. We collected 20 book covers that were released in 2021 – some we have read, others we haven’t. With that, I think it’s time for the covers to speak for themselves.

The Most Beautiful Book Covers of 2021

Sabrina

The Tangleroot Palace by Marjoire Liu

The art on this cover is so magical and intricately detailed, and I love the colour scheme as well. It’s very pretty, but in a dark, moody way.

A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth

This is another book with gorgeous, magical art on the cover that also has a dark vibe. I love the way the wings look like arms reaching over the character.

The Maidens by Alex Michaelides

I adore the whole aesthetic of this cover. The contrast of the shimmery metallic cracks on the black background and the subtle blood red on the neck of the statue make this cover remarkable.

The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He

Stunning is the first word that comes to mind when looking at this cover! I also think it represents the story fairly well, which is a great bonus.

A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

This is such a detailed and atmospheric cover – it looks like something you could find in the library of a haunted mansion.

Fire Keeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley

I love the bold colours in this cover, and the way the faces form the wings of the butterfly/moth that’s central to the design.

Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo

The whole concept of this cover is so cool and creepy – I love it! My favourite part is the vines twisting around both the hands.

Tim Te Maro and the Subterranean Heartsick Blues by H.S. Valley

This colour combination is so fun and vibrant. I especially love the yellow highlights and the smiling, happy faces.

Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell

The colour gradients in this cover are so pretty and I love the silhouettes of the characters too. There are so many little details to pick out as well!

Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim

I love all the bright red details in this cover and the way the cranes fold around the character. The windswept hair is another appreciated detail.

Vera

Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

I love the cutely drawn characters and the color combination of the covers in this series, and this one’s my favorite of the three.

Sweethand by N.G. Peltier

Any book that (a) has such a gorgeous illustrated cover, and (b) has a cat on it is an absolute winner, I don’t make the rules.

All the Feels by Olivia Dade

What I love about this cover, besides the fat rep, is the way the characters are drawn in a detailed way while the background looks like line art.

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

This art, similarly to the cover of The House in the Cerulean Sea, is incredibly cute and looks.. wholesome? Not sure how much sense that makes.

I love how this cover feels so warm – seeing the cover instantly made me pick up the book. It has this nice, retro postcard quality to it too.

Fog, abandoned car, a creepy figure.. and all of that is well put together? This is basically a perfect horror cover.

When the Reckoning Comes by LaTanya McQueen

This cover looks like it could belong to a much older novel, which instantly made me intrigued. On top of that, it has a foreboding feel to it, which is fitting for a horror.

The Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese

I love warm tones and I especially love warm tones on Christmas novels, so this one was always going to be a winner for me.

The Ghost Sequences by A.C. Wise

When I first looked at this cover, I only saw a skull… and then all its details started to manifest in front of my eyes. This might be my favorite cover of 2021.

The Hidden by Melanie Golding

This is a relatively simple cover, but I still find it eye-catching and beautiful.

Let’s chat!

What are your favorite book covers of 2021? Do we have any in common? What type of covers do you like the most? (E.g. illustrated.)

  1. A dark & hollow place aswell as thise we’re meant to find will always remain so gorgeous to me!!

There was however quite a few I never seen before- such as the ghost sequences, the ghosts of who you were aswell as dowry of blood – which I do agree with what you said about them!

    1. I haven’t even seen the details on The Dowry of Blood before Sabrina (and you) pointed them out. :O I love those details (and I also loved that book so much.) Same!! I haven’t had a lot of time to blog hop recently, but I can’t wait to see everyone’s end of year posts. 😀

  3. I love looking at pretty covers, so this post was great!! The cover for A Dark and Hollow Star is really cool, though I sadly didn’t like the book 😔 (I also saw the cover for the sequel and it doesn’t look good … so I’m kinda glad I’m not continuing this series 😅) Also the cover for Under the Whispering Door is SO pretty!! 🥰 However, for quite a long time I didn’t even notice the stag shadow in the background 😂

  5. It’s so interesting to see what sorts of styles each of you prefer on your covers. While I understand why Sabrina finds those covers so aesthetically appealing, my tastes more strongly align with Vera’s! I too adore bright, illustrated cute covers! I did a whole post explaining the sorts of covers I loved but I believe that was over a year ago, so I think it’s time to do a part 2!

Great post! I can’t wait to read through the rest of your end of the year content!
