Life Updates: Marriage, Work and Just Trying to Keep Up with Life

Hey, all! It’s Ruzaika and I’ve FINALLY found some time to put together a quick updates post and in case you’ve forgotten me already or you’re new here and didn’t even know there was a co-blogger here behind the scenes…fair enough, I’ve been away for way, way, waaaay too long and do please forgive me for that! In my defense, there’s just so much that has been happening in my life that I’ve barely managed to stay afloat. Like, you know that tweet that said something along the lines of how so much has been happening this year that it feels like you’ve lived 3 years in one? Yeah, well, I have never related to anything as much as I did to it.

Anyway, since my last updates post (on July 18th where I was very much freaking out over what was coming up), I am now married and working? Like a proper ADULT? I don’t even know who I am anymore but let’s rewind to just over three months ago where I was decidedly unmarried and unemployed and start from there, covering important happenings, shall we?

August 14th, 2019

Where I tied the knot. Also called Nikah. I don’t really remember much because it felt like things were moving at a super fast pace, but it was a happy and super emotional day. The best thing about it all was that I married my actual highschool boyfriend, so yeah. Emo.

August 18th, 2019

Waleema day – something like a homecoming. This is where I actually moved to my husband’s place so it was tears and laughter and tears all over again. Marked the proper shift into married life, I guess, so from this point on I had to really prepare myself for a lot of changes.

August 20th, 2019

A quick, quiet getaway to Ella, just the both of us. Heard about the insta-famous Nine Arches Bridge in Sri Lanka? Yeah, Ella is where that is situtated. These 3 days away from family and friends proved to be just what we needed before we had to be back home and it was all family stuff all over again. We do this thing where newly weds visit close family together after the wedding and though it is usually done a few weeks after the wedding, we decided to get it done with as soon as possible. My husband (ew, husband!) works a whole country away, in Qatar, and he had to leave a couple of weeks after the wedding so this felt best.

October 7th, 2019

The husband came down to Sri Lanka and we went on our actual honeymoon! ACK. We left to Indonesia for a week and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. We were like properly, properly knackered afterwards but Bali and Gili Trawangan, where we spent the majority of our trip, were both poles apart in the kind of experiences they offered and still both so good. The Bali hype is real, y’all! I don’t want to go into much detail here, but I did start documenting our journey here!

Fast Forward to November, 2019

Now this is where things start going…not quite where I saw them to. The plan was always to marry and then relocate to Qatar, after which I’d start looking for a job there. I was, however, prone to get tempted by job vacancies here in SL, so whenever I stumbled upon any I’d still apply, confident I wouldn’t land any because of my lack of experience. Imagine my surprise (and horror) when I was actually called for an interview, attended said interview and actually. Landed. A. Job?!!!!!! As a junior counsellor at a refugee education centre. The opportunity felt too good to pass and so, here I am, literal miles away from the love of my life, working away at a job I’m actually…a tiny bit thrilled about. It’s tiring, and adjusting to these changes so soon after the wedding has sure been exhausting, but I’m willing to give this a shot and see where it leads me to. So, yeah.

That’s what’s been up with me lately. This update has been long-pending, as has been my return to blogging but I think I’m finally ready and so here I am. The biggest shoutout here, however, is to Vera, who has been ever-so-patient with my postponements and bailing out at the last minute- and trust me, it’s been a LOT! She’s been keeping W&W alive and running so smoothly all singlehandedly, I’m not sure how she does all she does, but let’s just say I really, truly lucked out when I joined as co-blogger with her!

I’ve had a busy (exciting) few months, as you can see. But now, tell me, what have YOU been up to? What have I missed out while away on hiatus? Let’s talk in the comments below!

  1. Congrats Ruzaika! I wish you and your husband a lifetime of happiness 😀 Thanks for the update! It looks like you had a very busy (but I’m sure fun!) couple of months.

  2. This is the post I was waiting for!!! (Sorry Vera – LOL. I mean…I’m always thrilled to read your posts, but this was a different thing altogether…).

That’s a lot to process in a few months, isn’t it, Ruzi? Plus the job thing kind of turned your life upside down (out of curiosity – how far is it where your husband works?). But it sounds like an important job, given the context. And wherever your life will head in the future, I’m sure you’re learning a lot from it.

And look at you. Half my age and already happily married, barely out of uni and already working and doing something that makes a difference. I’m so proud of you.

I hope you’ll find the time to blog again, though Vera is awesome at keeping things going on here. But I would miss you if you didn’t, so get your cute behind into gear 😂 😉.

  3. Crazy!
Glad to hear the update, I was hoping you were doing okay. I follow you on social media so I knew at least a little bit of things with you. I hope the two of you aren’t having to be separate from each other too much – that must make things really hard.
Wishing you the best of luck with work and finding a balance and everything!

  4. What an update! You’ve had a crazy few months and it makes sense you’ve not blogged. I remember you being nervous about your wedding but so much has happened! It sounds like you had a great time away with your husband and seeing family and I’m jealous you went to Bali! I work with someone who just came back from there and she raved about it so much. I was so jealous and it’s on my holiday list.

It’s amazing you got a job you feel like is so perfect for you. It sucks it means you have to live apart from your husband, though. It was too good a position not to take it, though. Hopefully, it’ll all come together in the end but you definitely have to see where it’s all going to take you.

  5. You have been SO busy! No wonder you haven’t had as much time for blogging. Congratulations on getting married to your highschool love and moving in together! And yay for having a lovely honeymoon. That job sounds amazing so congratulations! I know being long distance now must have taken some adjusting to as well, and might still be taking some! I hope the future holds wonderful things for you even though it is uncertain for the time being.
